  5. Practical Session – Learn to gland Ex cable gland and identify different type of Ex equipment

1) Mdm MARINA BINTI MAHDAR

SIRIM Berhad
Mdm Marina Mahdar is a Consultant in Engineering Standards Management and Consulting Services Section of Standards Research and Management Centre, SIRIM Berhad. As a consultant, she is competent in project management and responsible for overseeing standards development activities with the assigned sectors.

Mdm Marina’s involvement in management function as technical secretary include planning, monitoring performance of technical committees, working groups and SWO’s, resolve issues of overlapping projects, changes of ISC memberships and to ensure that new SWO are provided with the required training on standard development processes.

In addition, she was also responsible for co-ordination and liaison with the appointed Standards-Writing Organisations (SWOs). The responsibility includes training the SWOs, monitoring projects and maintaining coordination.

Mdm Marina is the National Secretary of the National ‘Mirror’ Committee on IEC/TC31 Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres (since 2002), IEC/TC115 High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission for DC Voltages above 100kV (since in 2009) (to quote some) and as an alternate member in National ExMC for IECEx System in Malaysia (since 2009).

She was involved in early discussion on proposal for Malaysia to be Member Body in IECEx System, where she was Secretary for Ad Hoc Committee on Certification for Electrical Apparatus for Explosive Atmospheres, which had discussed the proposal in 2002.

She is the Co-ordinator for National Task Force on formulating the draft IEC/TR on Guidelines on Asset Management of HVDC Installation where Malaysia’s first proposed new work item proposal (NP) in IEC. Malaysia is the Project Leader for the TC115/WG4.

She is also a SubContractor Auditor for SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd for 1-Innocert Certification Programme Scheme.

2) Ir. QUAH EWE HOCK
Ir Quah is the Malaysian IEC Expert member in the IEC standards for explosive atmospheres maintenance team, since 2008, for :
  MT 60079-1 (Flameproof Enclosure Ex d);
  MT 60079-14 (Installation, Design, Selection & Erection);
  MT 60079-17 (Electrical Installation Inspection & Maintenance)
  MT 60079-18 (Encapsulation Ex m);
  MT 60079-19 (Repair, Overhaul and Reclamation).

He is the Vice-Chairman, Technical Committee for Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres (TCEEA), Malaysia and Chairman of TCEEAs’ Working Groups 6.

He graduated from University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Elect) and is a Professional Electrical Engineer (P Eng No. 4626), Principal Examiner for Professional Engineer Assessment and an IEM Graduate Engineers mentor. He has over 38 years of experience in design, selection, installation, utilization and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment in hazardous atmospheres in major oil & gas facilities n Malaysia.

Ir Quah is the Technical Director for ExIS Sdn Bhd, Chief Operating Officer for Ampmech Industries Sdn Bhd, and Thuba SEA Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian-Swiss joint venture company specialising in Explosionproofing solutions for South East Asian countries.
